Nichoulas Copple (Koppel) and his son, Daniel, both served with the Hessian contingent of the British forces during the American Revolutionary War. Nichoulas deserted in Maryland, re-enlisted to serve with the Revolutionary forces, lost an eye and was mustered out, and received a land grant in Rowan County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Washington and elsewhere.
