In 2003 she received a Massey University Research Award to visit Antarctic centre and aquaria in Japan, the USA, England, Scotland, Norway and Singapore. She returned to Antarctica in 2005 funded by Creative New Zealand to photograph Antarctic tourism aboard the cruise ship Akademik loffe ("11 Spectacular Days.") A US National Science Foundation Grant in 2008 enabled her to return for six weeks to complete the trilogy that includes Ice blink, At the end of the earth and Whiteout/whitenoise.
