註釋In June 1987, the Government of Canada confirmed its commitment to the political evolution of Yukon and the Northwest Territories by approving a political and economic framework for the North. There are four objectives central to the initiative: transferring to the territories province-like responsibilities: the settlement of all outstanding Native land claims; assisting the territories in strengthening their economies; and reinforcing Canadian sovereignty over Arctic lands and waters. This document outlines how the government plans to carry out this program, and what it will mean to northerners.
