Characterization of Biomaterials
註釋In order to enhance the application potential of scaffolds in tissue engineering, comprehensive characterization of scaffold micro- and macro-structure, porosity, permeability and mechanical properties are required. In addition, before in vivo studies can be carried out, a complete assessment of the in vitro behavior of scaffolds, e.g. in selected cell culture studies, is required. The present chapter revises the wide range of methods applied to characterize scaffolds and emphasizes the need for a combination of different characterization techniques for understanding scaffold performance required for successful bone regeneration.
