註釋Investigates the issue of an early Catalan translation of the Bible between 1477-78, which was later lost. States that the translation was done by and for the Conversos of Valencia, with the help and cooperation of open-minded Spaniards within the religious establishment, and in accordance with the Hebrew original. The unorthodox translation was prohibited and burned by the Inquisition; the translators, principally Converso Daniel Vives, were interrogated and put on trial, but were finally reconciled with a substantial fine and curtailment of most civic rights (1486). Owners or readers of the Valencia Bible, mainly Conversos, were persecuted and menaced. Pp. 151-230 include the text of the Psalms in Catalan from the original Bible, as it was conserved in an incunabulum discovered during the 19th century.
