Maria Leontina
註釋A fresh perspective on the life, artwork and creative process of plastic artist Maria Leontina (1917-1984), a fundamental figure in the history of mid-20th century Brazilian painting. This is the first major monograph on her work. Married to artist Milton Dacosta, Leontina created in 40 years of artistic career a large artistic production that evolved between figurative, expressionism, abstractionism and constructivism. Her art is described by Paulo Venancio Filho in his essay as "Leontina exempts all dogmas. Those ones which are constructive of a grid-like structure, of monochrome and primary colors, finding possibilities from Tonalism to transcription of a delicate subjective and emotional tessitura"--Page 25. This major edition brings together close to 180 color reproductions of her most important work created between 1940 and 1980 and includes critical texts by Ferreira Gullar, Paulo Venancio Filho, Llia Coelho Frota, Walmir Ayala
