A Register of Deceased Persons at Sea and on Grosse Île in 1847
註釋This register contains lists of names of those who died in the 1847 immigration (mainly from Ireland) to the quarantine station on Grosse Ile in the St. Lawrence River downstream from Quebec City. The two lists in the register group together emigrants, quarantine station employees, and sailors. The first list identifies mainly those who died and were buried at the quarantine station during the 24-week shipping season in 1847. The second lists a number of emigrants who died on the ships, at sea, and in quarantine, during the same season. Most of the names on the lists come from deaths listed in the Quebec Morning Chronicle during summer and fall 1847. The 8,308 names in the register appear in alphabetical order and each entry includes family name, given name, age, name of ship, port of departure, and country the emigrant left from. The appendix includes an alphabetical list of ships that arrived at the island in 1847, giving country and port of origin, departure and arrival date, number of passengers, and numbers of deaths.
