Develops a fault-detection methodology for the diagnosis of problems in the exhaust emission controls system in a Ford 4.6 L V8 engine. The methodology combines elements from model-based and knowledge-based diagnostic methods into one scheme in order to enhance the performance of fault diagnosis tools in complex nonlinear systems. Fuzzy logic is used to integrate the two systems.
