A National Geographic Information System for the Forest Insect and Disease Survey
註釋The Forest Insect and Disease Survey (FIDS) is a program of the Canadian Forestry Service responsible for the collection, processing, and dissemination of information on forest insect and disease conditions of Canada. FIDS prepared annual estimates of pest occurrence by species, location, area of forest affected, and intensity of damage. A large part of the data the Survey collects is now retained in an information system called FIDSINFOBASE, developed using the INGRES relational database management system and providing national access. This report looks at the potential application of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology in the Survey, determines the requirements, including technical, in relations to FIDS activities and GIS functions, and conducts both system selection and investigation.
