Our First Hero - Premier Sir Richard Dry
註釋Sir Richard Dry was the most popular and revered figure of 19th Century Tasmania. Was he also Australia’s first gay political leader? You decide. He was extraordinarily generous, gregarious, hospitable and public spirited. Though endowed with little business sense and afflicted by gambling, he inherited considerable wealth, which he enjoyed and spread around liberally. His great passions were education, railways, self-government and opposition to the convict system. Sadly, he died just before our first railway was completed.
