註釋Human plasmacytoma is one of the rare cancers in which an essential tumoural growth factor, interleukin-6, has been identified in vivo. The overproduction of interleukin 6 in this disease can explain the major clinical abnormalities. This text reviews recent findings concerning cytokines, cytokine receptors and the oncogenes involved in plasmacytomas. It also discusses new therapeutical approaches that have emerged from biological discoveries.
