The authors have attempted to provide the essential chemical bases that control the many dissolved constituents in natural waters. Also, a considerable quantity of "raw" water quality data is provided that may be helpful in the management of lakes, reservoirs, streams, rivers, etc., and in the design, perhaps, of a potable water treatment plant. The authors have researched the scientific literature as thoroughly as possible on a particular water quality subject.
