註釋Nashoba can be read as a true picture of a remarkable episode in our history; it can be read as a drama of ideas; but it should, first of all, be read as an exciting novel. It is the story of the remarkable Frances Wright and her courageous effort to find a way to free the slaves. In the 1820's, Fanny, as she was called, bought a wilderness plantation in western Tennessee, peopled it with slaves, and urged them to work off their purchase price and become free.
