Tracey Moffatt
註釋Familiar to American audiences from her critically acclaimed exhibition Free-falling at the Dia Center for the Arts, the Australian artist Tracey Moffatt is among the most carefully watched younger figures on the international scene. Of Aboriginal descent, Moffatt focuses on themes of the other, the unknown, the outcast, and the marginal. In her photographs and videos, she shows the complex interweaving of human relationships, forged by ethnic, social, and gender differences. Moffatt does not, however, aim to capture reality but to create her own reality. In her photographic work, the past, present, and future of the protagonists seem to gel together into a surreal simultaneity. At the same time, the presence of the other in the picture creates an often unsettling still life of atmospheric strangeness and contradictory emotions. This excellent catalogue is published in conjunction with an exhibition in cooperation between the Kunsthalle Wien and the Wurttembergisher Kunstverein Stuttgart.
