The results were grouped into three categories: pre-class variables, course mechanics, and classroom dynamics. Pre-class variables included family upbringing, personality, and expectations regarding their courses. Course mechanics included goals and content of the courses, class size, class make-up, small groups, course format (summer, weekends, or full semester), and course requirements. Classroom dynamics included the nature of the interactions between students and professors, and the nature of the interactions among the students, as well as the impact of those interactions on the participants.
