It is an event unique in its goal to return 100% of every penny the participants raise to AIDS Service Organizations around Florida. The SMART Ride is in essence a moving city of over 700 people, riding and crewing, becoming over the course of two days a united family with a sole purpose of helping each other and ultimately helping those affected by HIV and AIDS. The participants of the event are not professional cyclists, or even in many cases athletes; they are just individuals that believe when we work together we can take care of each other. Since 2003 SMART Ride has kept to its promise of giving back 100%, 100% of the time and has raised millions of dollars to help individuals get everything from a simple bus pass (to make a doctor's appointment) to testing, medications, housing assistance, social services, and the list goes on and on. The past few years more than 10,000 people annually donate to SMART Ride, that's 10,000 people that say the word AIDS. Saying AIDS makes it real, saying AIDS brings up questions, saying AIDS helps us recognize it has not gone away.
