Livin' in Mexico: the Stories
註釋Livin' In Mexico: The Stories, is the follow-up book to the best selling Livin' In Mexico: The Real Story, by author Brian Burke. The book is designed to be an ongoing series, the main characters Rob And Riley, expats living in Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico, on the Gulf Coast, near Merida. The first book, LIM: The Real Story, isn't really a "how to live in Mexico" book as much as it's about life choices, expats, Facebook, and even pirates. This book is a new release. If the first book describes what it's like to live in Mexico, the second one takes you there. It's the first book, broader, more defined; it's a good tale. It fleshes out the first book, humanizes it, and is an excellent add-on if you've read the first. That said, both books stand alone, they don't reference each other. They tell the same story, just in a different way.Rob and Riley love each other. He's a bit of a beach bum, a musician. He loves the water, watching sunrises and sunsets over it, listening, creating, and playing music inspired by the beauty of it all.Riley, on the other hand, is a bit of a mystery, Educated in Europe, a previous marriage to a down-on-his -luck Count engaged in Rome's seedy, fast-living criminal life. What she's doing in Progreso is anyone's guess. On the run from the law? Involved in something nefarious with Rob? No one knows. She's smart, beautiful, and seemingly out of place in the small community they make home. Riley's main hobby is her constant messing with Rob, which she particularly enjoys. Not that Rob really minds, he loves every inch of her, every second of her. In the first chapter, Yucatan Beach Feuds, they start the day eventfully, Rob scrambling, Riley conniving, They deal with that to its surprising conclusion, then enjoy tacos at their favorite stand on Caille 82, reading over the comments on Yucatan Beach Feuds, an infamously touchy, often nasty Facebook expat group.Later, Riley is up to her old tricks, confident she has conned Rob into believing they are very soon moving to the Great White North, beyond the tree line, living with the Inuit, snacking on seal eyes. But fate intervenes, the universe seeks balance, Rob plays out the unbeatable hand laid in his lap, and Riley meets Karma via, of all places, Chelem. With the help of a few guys named Joe and George.Later on, Rob learns grace and humility grow side by side in Mexico, Riley and Rob spend a weekend in Merida, exploring Centro Historico, come to some conclusions regarding the Cathedrale and the Spanish Colonials, and spend a magical evening dining at La Recova in Santa Lucia Park. These are just a few of the highlights. It runs about 128 pages, and hopefully you will enjoy every one. Join us for the fifth installment, expected late February 2018. Summing up, this is a fun read; it's humorous, insightful, thought-provoking, and illuminating. It presents Mexico from the perspective of those who live there, not by necessity, but by choice, entranced by its grace, charm, it's authenticity, its boundless beauty. If any of those qualities are similar to what you appreciate about Mexico, this book will help you hone that thinking.
