註釋
Many of the ideas contained in the thesis are generated by discoveries of Robert Langs, M.D. and C.G. Jung. Both analysts believed that a certain "objective" dimension of the psyche exists in patients, and each prescribes a certain set of paramenters and methods for listening to the unconscious. Langs' position posits (though not explicitly stated) that derivative communication contains objectively valid and meaningful commentaries about the patient's unconscious experience of the therapist and the analyst. Langs furthered the importance of this idea when at the 1986 Annual Conference for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, he stated that the derivative represents a "psycho-biological" imperative within the psyche, whose function is to constantly present meaning and truth to the conscious system. While Jung neglects the unconscious' propensity to represent "interactional truths" as Langs believes, he maintains that within the unconscious there is what he terms an "Objective Psyche" capable of accurately conveying meaning and guidance to the individual.
