Buckling Analysis of Elastically Constrained Conical Shells Under Hydrostatic Pressure by the Collocation Method
註釋The present work presents a collocation method for numerical solution of buckling problems. Several such problems are solved and physical and mathematical conclusions are drawn. The collocation method is proposed as an alternative to the conventional ones, which either failed to yield complete solutions or are too cumbersome in application. A collocation method entails two major difficulties: (a) choice of the optimal collocation points, (b) efficient determination of the eigenvalue from the stability determinant. These two difficulties are solved in the first stages of the study. The application of the method is demonstrated on several familiar buckling problems; axially loaded columns under different boundary conditions, simply-supported columns with varying cross section in axial compression, and conical shells of various geometries subjected to hydrostatic pressure under the four SS1-SS4 boundary conditions.
