註釋
America's East Coast is dissolving into the Atlantic due to delayed effects from the last ice age, and this sinking process is being exacerbated by global warming, which is raising sea-level by an alarming and increasing rate. This book starts to describe the problem and develops a range of design propositions about adaptation, that are then applied in a range of cities along the coast. This methodology is known as 'research by design' where we use design as a tool to test and visualize the future impact of actions, in order to sensitivity-test situations and learn about how we can change the status quo through designed interventions. This iterative process allows us as designers to move in complex contexts where other more empirically based disciplines cannot.
