The Perspectives of IB Students, Teachers, and Coordinators on the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) Across IB Schools in Lebanon
註釋The international Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The programme has gained recognition from the worlds leading universities. In January 2000 the Minister of Education, Mohammad Youssef Beydoun, announced a decree that equates the IB DP with the Lebanese Baccalaureate Diploma Program. This decree allows the government to give licenses to Lebanese private schools to teach the program, provided that these schools have been accepted by the IB organization. The purpose of this study is showing the perspectives of IB coordinators, teachers and students on the IB DP across IB schools in Lebanon. In order to achieve its objectives, the study employed semi-structured interviews that investigate 9 aspects of the IB DP. These aspects are: IB Learner Profile, IB DP Core Components, IB DP Pedagogy in comparison to the Lebanese Program, Strengths and Weaknesses of the IB DP, IB DP curriculum in Comparison to the Lebanese Program and American Program, IB DP as university Preparedness, University Destinations of IB DP students, IB DP University Recognition, and Private Tutoring. Based on the perspectives of IB coordinators, teachers, and students, this study showed that the IB DP has more advantages than disadvantages and that the participants favor the IB DP over the Lebanese Baccalaureate and the American Program.
