The immigrant ancestor, Michael Holt (ca. 1697-1765), was born probably in Palatinate (Alsace), Germany, and came to America via England. Ca. 1716 he married Elizabeth Sheible, daughter of George Sheible, a German emigrant. In 1717 Michael and Elizabeth Holt arrived in Virginia by boat with twenty other German families from Alsace. Family lived in Spotsylvania, Orange and Culpepper Counties in Virginia and in Alamance Co., North Carolina, where Michael Holt died on his plantation. Couple had seven children. Descendants live in North Carolina, Tennessee and elsewhere.
