註釋
Pp. 23-32, "The Aestheticization of the Holocaust", uses the term "Holocaust" to refer to all those (soldiers as well as civilians) killed during World War II and the "Red Holocaust" of Stalin, as well the millions of spiritually traumatized survivors of "the Holocaust of the living". Focusing on literature from West Germany and the Soviet Union, disagrees with Adorno's dictum "no poetry after Auschwitz". Denies that the artistic portrayal of the Holocaust is aestheticization and recommends metaphor as an effective literary means of approaching the Holocaust. Pp. 33-38, "The Virus of Inhumanity: Some Aspects of the Post-Holocaust Jewish Psyche", attributes the "atrocities" of Israeli treatment of Palestinian Arabs and extreme Israeli religious and political attitudes to the Jewish trauma of the Holocaust. Concludes that no nation has a monopoly on suffering or inhumanity.
