The first of several studies reported in this paper was undertaken to provide an inventory of the natural vegetation in Island Beach State Park and thereby establish a basis for future ecological studies of various kinds. Several studies were undertaken to determine the nature of environmental influence on the vegetational pattern; and one autecological study, having to do with the tolerance of plants to windborne salt spray, was completed.
