The Lower Palaeolithic Occupation of Britain: Text
註釋There has been no satisfactory account of the British Lower Palaeolithic for the last 20 years, despite huge changes in our understanding of our earliest ancestors. This is a comprehensive review of the sites yielding evidence of the Lower Paleolithic in Britain. Most of the finds come from alluvial deposits in river valleys, and maps and sections illustrating the sequence of these deposits form an important part of the book, providing the framework for a chronological separation of the finds. The sites are reviewed in the context of their landscapes: river valleys, seaside, lakeside, downs and hillsides, caves and rock shelters, and in three broad chronological phases. This huge, two-volume publication, accompanied by maps and a gazetteer, is the culmination of an English Heritage Research Programme.
