註釋Surveys the history of Jews in Hemer from the beginning of their settlement in the 17th century until World War II. Pp. 88-148 discuss the Nazi period, dealing with discrimination, boycott and Aryanization, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, emigration, arrests, deportations to concentration camps, forced labor, and annihilation. From ca. 70 Jews who lived in 1933 in Hemer, 25 managed to emigrate between 1933-41, and 41 were murdered in concentration camps. Pp. 159-176 relate the fate of nine Jewish families during the Holocaust. Pp. 187-208 include an alphabethical list of 254 Jewish residents who lived in Hemer between 1770-1957.
