註釋Discusses the role and impact of the German "Lexikon der Juden in der Musik", compiled in 1940 for the Nazis by Theo Stengel and Herbert Gerigk. Its goal was the exclusion of Jewish musicians, leading to their persecution and annihilation. Pp. 181-375 contain a reprint of the first edition of the "Lexikon". During 1941-43 three other editions were published, containing new entries covering all of the European countries. Readers were requested to provide further information, and after the appearance of the first edition many denouncers reported additional names. Pp. 386-419 contain an alphabetical list of 252 Jewish musicians who perished in the Holocaust. The list is based on a comparision of entries in the "Lexikon" with necrologies of Auschwitz, the "Gedenkbuch für die Opfer der Verfolgung der Juden", and information in memorial books of various towns. With the constant addition of names, the real number of musicians murdered may be much larger. Argues that some of the listed "Halbjuden" might have survived if not for the "Lexikon".
