Therapeutic Assessment for Adolescents Presenting with Self-harm
註釋Self-harm is a growing problem in adolescence. Poor self-harm identification and poor treatment engagement are important obstacles to developing effective interventions for self-harm. -- Aims: The overarching aim of this thesis is to research new ways of assessing and managing adolescents with self-harm. Specific goals are to examine factors influencing treatment engagement, explore adolescents' views on self-harm assessments, develop and evaluate a therapeutic component in the initial self-harm assessment (Therapeutic Assessment, TA) and improve self-harm detection and characterisation. -- Studies undertaken: (1) a suicide survey (2) a meta-analysis of treatment engagement in Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) comparing specific psychological treatment (SPT) with usual care (UC) (3) a qualitative study of adolescents' hopes and expectations from self- harm assessments (4) a pilot study of TA (5) an RCT of TA versus UC (6) a validation study of the Self-Harm Questionnaire (SHQ).
