An Optimizing Energy Model of the Lebanese Electric Power Sector
註釋Nowadays, the electric power system in Lebanon is in a crisis condition, which if not addressed urgently and correctly by the political and legislative authorities, could lead to lack in development which will slow the growth of the economy, damage prospects for attracting private investment and worsen the technical problems of the sector. The electric energy production sector plays a pivotal role in the development of a modem nation. So a first step in optimizing this sector is to understand the various exchanges among elements of this sector through a model. This will help to make better decisions concerned with the development of this sector. The energy model, formulated--as an optimization problem, will allow decision makers to determine the effects of existing and new technologies on the utilization of energy in the electric power sector with due regard to the economy and the environment. The problem is formulated as a linear optimization problem constrained by the energy or mass balance of different stages and processes, and by economic and environmental constraints. The electric power model will be run under a set of different scenarios of future demand in order to demonstrate the capabilities of the developed methodology, in terms of future energy predictions and environmental effects. Data obtained will be compared with past--statistics to validate the model. The analyses would also include the effect of changing fuel prices, transmission efficiency, new producing power plants, and environmental constraints. Based on the model results, suggestions for improvement in the electric power sector will be presented for the different scenarios in future time.
