In thesis various factors that influence the utilization of forages in the rumen have been studied. The process of rumen fermentation has been investigated two aspects: the utilization of energy yielding substrates, namely plant structural carbohydrates, and the availability of forage nitrogen, the major microbial protein precursor. Also, a considerable amount of effort has been devoted to the study and development of laboratory techniques required for the evaluation of the forage nutritive value.
