Hark! Are PTAs Swallowing Up the WTO and Global Economic Welfare? A Legal and Political Economy Critique of PTAs
註釋Scholarly literature abounds with the exposition of the role of preferential trade agreements (PTAs) in enhancing or reducing global economic welfare, specifically in the context of the WTO. However, the bulk of it is written by economists and predominantly confined to economic analysis. Economic insight is a very vital facet of the evaluation of PTAs, but inadequate without assessment of the political undercurrent in these agreements, as well as the legal and institutional issues intermingled with them. The literature in general is also lopsided, taking a strong position in one or the other end of the spectrum. This article endeavours to present balanced legal and political economy critique of these issues.
