註釋The Republic of the Union of Myanmar is in its first presidential term of democratic governance. After the first democratic elections in almost five decades in 2010, President Thein Sein was elected to lead Myanmar in March 2011. Under the current Government, the ICT sector has been identified as one of 10 priority areas in FESR (Framework for Economic and Social Reform), the basis on which National Development Plans are formed. The recent highly publicized auction for two domestic telecommunications licenses attracted bids from international telecom operators such as Axiata, Bharti, Ooredo, Telenor, Airtel, China Mobile etc. On the 27th of June MCIT announced that Telenor and Ooredoo (also known as Qatar Telecom or Q-Tel) had been awarded licenses to build Myanmar's telecommunications network and run a nationwide wireless network in Myanmar. The licenses were given in Feb 2014. Simultaneously the the formulation of the new telecom law was commenced and it was passed on 8th October 2013.
