Christopher Edwards Gadsden Papers
註釋Letters concern affairs of the Diocese of South Carolina, both while Gadsden was rector of St. Philip's Church, Charleston, 1814-1840, and during his episcopate. They express support for the General Theological Seminary, in New York City, and the Sunday School Union. He writes about his reading and library in Charleston, as well as publications of the New York Protestant Episcopal Press. He wishes to found a brotherhood, although disapproving of the monastic missionary enterprise of the Reverend James Lloyd Breck. There are references to his interest in missions, especially the mission in Greece and Turkey, and in relations with the Orthodox Church. A few letters are addressed to Bishop James Kemp; most are to William Rollinson Whittingham, both before and after he became Bishop.
