Attempts to determine if charge-transfer bonding forces are involved in enzyme inhibition by gas chromatographic and spectral methods were, in general, unsuccessful. Direct spectral evidence of formation of the [beta]-naphthoquino-linium cation in the presence of the enzyme, [alpha]-chymotrypsin, has been shown.
