This letter was written by Raffles from Falmouth. He wrote that en route to Bencoolen (western Sumatra), where he was to take up the post of lieutenant-governor, he was forced to seek shelter from an ongoing storm: "We have had a great deal of motion and the Ladies, particularly My Lady, have suffered severely." The letter requests that Tayler organise a daily newspaper and forward correspondence to Falmouth.
