註釋Simon Hoyt, the other founder of the Hoyt family in New England was born at Upway, Dorset, England, 20 January 1590, son of John and Ruth Hoyt, and there he married in December 1612, Deborah, daughter of Walter Stowers. In America he settled in Charlestown, Massachusetts. He was in Dorcester by 1630, Scituate by 1635, and Windsor, Connecticut by 1639. He received a grant of land at Fairfield, Connecticut in 1649 and lived there until shortly before his death in 1657. His second wife was Susanna Smith, who after his death married Robert Bates of Stamford, Connecticut. Descendants settled in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, New Jersey, and elsewhere.
