註釋Song of Harmony is my first collection of poems in English. Some years ago, I wrote some poems and a few of them were published in some English daily and monthly journals. A poet can express his ideas and emotions in the language he knows. Some thousands of Odia poems I have written since my age of fifteen and three collections have been published yet and some are in the offing. I use the Indian literature, the Soviet literature, the Chinese literature, the Tatvaloka and the journals of our state literary academy for my comparative study, which led me to do something more. Besides, Odia poems, I use to write some English and Hindi poems for Facebook, those brought me good response to inspire. Our Indian literature has a special aesthetics and way of expression, which are absent in the Western style. It is somehow difficult to convert them to Western style of art. Indian rhetoric is so vast and extensive that very often we face troubles to find equivalent expressions in other language. In comparative study we can realise the truth. Indian style of prose and poetry was invented some seven thousand years ago, while the Western style was not thought of. The Vedic hymns were composed both in prosaic and poetric style while the modern critics in doubt of their composition. The prose verses are not new in ancient Indian literature. The symbols, similes and metaphors are found plenty in epic and mythology, which can be utilised in the modern style of expression. Some Indian English writers first think in their mother tongue and then express them in English. But, there are other, who both think and write in English. Very often, I have followed both the ways. At times, I have also reproduced my best expressions into English as some specific human emotions are same worldwide and universal in nature. I must convey my obligation to Late Prof. Ananta Charan Sukla, the then lecturer and guide during my honours classes in the 60s at Bhadrak College. I also express my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Golak Bihari Sahoo, who was my dearest colleague once upon a time in the High School Service, and now a retired professor of English from Bhadrak (Auto) College, who has gone through the poems and gave necessary suggestions by investing his valuable time. There might be some sort of errors, both in grammatical and stylistic errs if found, are left for the sympathetic, learned readers to excuse.
