Handbook of Smoking effects on Nerve Conduction Velocities
註釋This handbook is written with intention to explain basic pathophysiology of smoking over nerves and their impact on nerve conduction velocities. Smoking affects nerves by several mechanisms. Smoking decrease blood supply to nerve. Smoking also induces subclinical changes in myelin sheath leading to demyelination of nerves and consequent decrease in conduction velocity. The demylinated axon has poor electrotonic conduction. Nerve conduction study is a part of electrodiagnostic procedures that helps in establishing the type and extent of the abnormality of the nerves.
