註釋In 1732, Salisbury Towne was founded on the eastern coast of Maryland on 15 acres, which belonged to William Winder. The town flourished, and upon the founding of Wicomico County in 1867, its county seat was declared Salisbury. Both the town and the county grew rapidly, earning Salisbury the nickname "Crossroads of Delmarva," a fitting moniker for what is today the most populated city between Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Dover, Delaware.
