The Matchbox House
註釋Jean Dobie is uneasily unaware of her shortcomings as a human being. Her husband drinks and is blatantly having an affair with the widow next door. Into her house as temporary boarders come three children, whose mother is in hospital. Jean imagines that if the mother were to die she might divorce her own unfaithful husband and marry their father. This idea gradually begins to take hold of her. There is both pathos and humour in this novel which is concerned with pathological mental states.
