註釋"Principles of Geology" by Sir Charles Lyell is a seminal work that attempts to explain the former changes of the Earth's surface by referencing causes currently in operation. Published between 1830 and 1833 by John Murray in London, this three-volume set includes colored frontispieces, illustrations, plates, and fold-out maps. Lyell's Principles of Geology is notable for its appendices, which feature tables of fossil shells by G.P. Deshayes and lists of fossil shells collected by Lyell in Sicily and Italy, also named by Deshayes.
