Virginia Lee Jowell Hagerstrom
註釋Hagerstrom describes her childhood in Frankston, Texas, and her college experiences at North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington, Texas, Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas and Stephen F. Austin State Teacher's College in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she was the first woman accepted into their Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPTP) She graduated in May of 1942 and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, to work for Delta Airlines. Having heard about the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) from a coworker, she applied and was accepted into class 43-W-4 which began training in February at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas. After graduation, Hagerstrom was stationed at Romulus Army Air Base in Romulus, Michigan and New Castle Army Air Base in Wilmington, Delaware. She was sent to Officer Candidate School in Orland, Florida, where she met an air force pilot, Jim Hagerstrom. Following WASP deactivation on December 20, 1944, she married Jim and had eight children.
