"The recent period of reduced rainfall extending over several years has brought with it acute problems in farm water supply in some sections of Iowa. This situation has been particularly true in the southern and southwestern sections of Iowa. In many cases wells which have afforded an adequate supply of water for the farm for many years have failed and attempts to secure new wells have been expensive and unsuccessful. In those sections the keeping of a desired number of livestock on the farm has been hampered by the lack of a reliable and adequate supply of water. This bulletin is a review of the problems of using farm ponds and offers suggestions for their location, construction and maintenance." -- p. [495]
