註釋
The critical years between ages 9 and 15 are an ideal and essential time to teach those students to accept responsibility for the consequences of their own behavior, to recognize that mistakes can become opportunities for learning, and to help them learn how to formulate and live with classroom and community rules that promote responsibility, respect, and self-discipline. This book offers teachers eight ready-to-use strategies--with objectives, materials, language, and examples-all designed to encourage students to accept responsibility, predict outcomes of decisions, and learn from mistakes. Following an introduction to the "twilight zone" between childhood and functioning adulthood, the book presents the eight strategies, as well as listing guidelines for using the strategies in areas including setting, time, use of journals, use of small groups, and evaluation. The remaining chapters each present one of the objectives and strategies: accepting responsibility, defining locus of control, making predictions, taking time to plan, learning from mistakes, communicating effectively, identifying classroom rules, and identifying elements of a classroom community. The book concludes with a list of 24 suggested readings. (HTH).
