註釋Many examples of arms and armour are illustrated in this book. In combination with the illustrations, this scholarly text explains how they were made, the innovations in the design of one which led to changes in the design of the other, the tournaments and mêlées which were dress-rehearsals for war itself, the decoration of armour by etching and heraldry, and the reasons for its final decline except as a sentimental adjunct to a warrior's formal portrait.
