註釋
"Joe Black is a "doer" with a golfing career that spans four decades. It all began at Lamesa High School, continued at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene where he played on the 1953 NAIA National Championship Team. After HSU he played three years on the PGA Tour. In 1958 he became a Tournament Supervisor on the PGA Tour Staff. He built his reputation as a Rules of Golf expert during his years on the tour. He was so knowledgeable of the Rules of Golf, he was a world-wide speaker on the subject and served as Chairman of the Rules Committee of the PGA of America and as a member of the USGA Rules Committee. He also served for 48 years on the Masters Tournament Rules Committee, the last 39 handling the rules and scoring at the 18th green. In 1965 he became Director of Golf at the 54-hole Brookhaven Country Club, Dallas, TX as well as Vice President of golf for Club Corporation of America, which owned such prestigious clubs as Brookhaven, Firestone, and Pinehurst. Black was elected Treasurer of the Northern Texas PGA from 1969-70 and President in 1971-72. He became the national Treasurer in 1977 and President of the PGA of America in 1981-82. The annual Joe Black Cup Matches were started in 1981 by Black's peers who hold him in high esteem. The matches are played between the club professionals from the Southern Texas PGA against their Northern Texas PGA counterparts. Black served as: Chairman of the PGA Rules Committee from 1969-1976, Chairman of the PGA Championship in 1979 and 1980, Chairman of the PGA Senior Championship in 1983, Captain of the PGA Cup Team in 1981-1983-1984, and Chairman of the Ryder Cup Matches in 1983. Black is a member of the: PGA of America Hall of Fame, Texas Golf Hall of Fame, and Hardin Simmons University Sports Hall of Fame. In 2005 Black was selected to receive one of Hardin-Simmons University's most prestigious awards: The Hall of Leaders. ... He still plays golf frequently and works with the Texas Golf Hall of Fame. He is a living historian of the game of golf, having been a participant or an eyewitness to many of the famous events of golf in the last 60 years."--Book jacket flaps
