In it, Cullen describes equipment, conditions in the combat zone, and morale. He gives his opinions on anti-war demonstrations, military leadership, and the treatment of returning veterans, particularly disabled veterans. He compares his experiences during his two tour in Vietnam and also describes riot control duty in Washington DC from November 1967 to May 1968 with the 6th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Cullen mentions tension between draftees and Army regulars, racial tension, and other problems in the Army.
