Contends that the affair was the outcome of an internal struggle in the Kremlin elite, i.e. a clash between Zhdanov's and Malenkov's cliques. Lidiya Timashuk, who launched the whole affair with her first denunciation letter, was merely a pawn in the hands of the Malenkovites.
