註釋Proteo militare : di Bartolomeo Romano : Crescentio describes a multi-purpose surveying and artillery instrument, the proteo militaire, consisting of different sword-like blades that can be mounted in a special hilt consisting of a cylindrical sundial with an armillary sphere at the end. The instrument could be used to determine latitude by sighting the polestar or the meridian altitude of the sun. In aide of this task, Crescentio includes a table of the suns declination for four years.
