註釋Biographies of Colonel Robert Patterson (1753-1827) and Colonel John Johnston (1775-1861), the paternal and maternal ancestors of John Henry Patterson (b.1844). Robert Patterson, of Scotch-Irish lineage, was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and served in the Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth Lindsey in 1780, and they later moved to Dayton, Ohio. Jefferson Patterson (1801-1863), a son of Robert and Elizabeth, in 1833 married Julia Johnston, a daughter of Col. John Johnston, whose lineage was also Scotch-Irish. Jefferson and Julia were the parents of John Henry Patterson (b.1844). Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and elsewhere.
